BREAKING FREE FROM SUFFOCATION

RAGHUVIR SAHAY (1928-1990)

Raghuvirsahay    Raghuvir Sahay belongs to a tradition of literature that looks forward rather than to the past for inspiration, for whom the golden age would come when the aspirations of all the millions of people are fulfilled.

Sahay, like most literary figures of his generation was not merely a significant poet. He was a writer-journalist, a social commentator, a literary critic and a partisan for secularism.

From late 60's till  the beginning of 80's he was editor of Hindi weekly Dinman, whose  status as the best political-social journal in Hindi is yet to be surpassed.

He advocated the use of a language that preserved the heritage of Hindustani, the Hindi-Urdu synthesis.

GHUTAN KE BAHAR : BREAKING FREE FROM SUFFOCATION

It is true that one can realize one's human side even while continuing to live in one's own little village.

But it is not possible to cross from one village, one social group, one kind of suffocation, and one kind of freedom to another, while remaining within the boundaries set by one's birth.

If one is to pass over into some other language, some other mode of being, some other country and some other history, some other enclosure, in short -- though only to free oneself from that as well, even sooner than before -- one must break through the seige laid by a closed society, which is a partisan of its own language and which all the while keeps the creative person under observation.

My strength does not come from knowing what I have joined myself to.

The joy I feel in creating springs from the knowledge of what I have broken from, so as to establish a new dwelling place. And if I could also be certain that my new world was built on the debris of the old, I'd be perfectly satisfied.

MUJHE KUCHH AUR KAMA THA : I OUGHT TO BE DOING MUCH ELSE

I  OUGHT to be doing much else
        in this unwhole world
        not just keep the promise
        to a landlord
        or shriek at
        a world of horrors
I ought to be doing much else
        not stand and eat
        a plate in hand
in a hall teeming with men and women
        maybe I ought to break
much more than an empty plate
        this year I
        should have made it
not just gaze in the looking-glass
shaving a stubble on my chin

I ought to sing and thunder with rage
          or just laugh
I ought to be going places
          making the salad
          with my sleeves rolled
I ought to have roughed the bully up
          outbrag the braggart
          dare the dandy
I ought I ought to put
          my child to sleep
          with a nice lullaby
I ought to perform much more
          than a mere salute
          gasping in the morning
          and not look atforty
dazed at the ways of the world
          yet it's amazing
          no one took the note
          when the success
          succeeded

I've watched it happen
          aflimsyfaith everyday
          vanishing bit by bit
between the jaws of a glorious people
          with survivor's guilt
          of five famines
I ought to be doing much else
instead I sit in a reading room
          looking for a familiar face
now and then for a hefty tome
I ought to know I know I know
          when my own generation
took over the reins of the nation
yet this way the world acts
          doting on rebels
          shunning the revolt

SAHAI : SOCIAL HELP FOR THE HANDICAPPED AND INFIRM

Sahai_emb A SYSTEM SPECIFIC TO INDIA TO MEET THE CHALLENGES FACED BY THE PARAPLEGICS

SAHAI is committed to prevent young adults from succumbing to spinal injuries and saving their families from any economic deprivation. In the process we hope to contribute towards an equitable society where the physically challenged can really lead a dignified and independent life.

It is estimated that in India there are about 2 million paraplegics. Of these, 40,000 are in states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Most of these paraplegics do not have any chance of survival as they invariably succumb to complications such as bed sores, infection and ultimately a slow miserable death.

Over 90% of paraplegics in India come from the low income or lower middle class income group. Since there is no social security system in India and the Government Medical institutions cannot keep patients with spinal injuries in the hospital for any length of time, they are sent home after the initial treatment.

In the last 9 years SAHAI has treated and rehabilitated 262 paraplegics. SAHAI has had the good fortune of excellent doctors in the field of Neurosurgery, Plastic surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, General surgery and general medicine giving their valued time and effort for treating these patients.

The results, especially in paraplegia of the lower thoracic or lumbar spines, has been phenomenal with the patients becoming mobile and totally independent with calipers.

LE SENS DU BIEN : René Sahaï

«Il faut avoir le Sens du Bien.»

René Samson SAHAÏ à 93 ans en 2006.

My father René Samson SAHAI born July 28, 1913 passed away peacefully on Nov. 15 at 1 pm Guadeloupe time after a short illness. He was a man of heart and a defender of nature. He was raised as a Christian but was above religious systems and was knwown for his great spiritual kindness, tolerance, and patience towards all. He always thought the presence of indians in Guadeloupe was a key factor of evolution and an example for the country and they should never let others dilute their culture and moral values. He was always thrilled to know someone from India was visiting. He was an ebenist and made sacrifices to give his 2 sons Jude and Jean the best education and an acute sense of always being ready to help others. He always objected to the cutting of a single tree and would never eat a fruit without keeping the seeds in envelopes and sowing them later. He rejected chemical drugs all his life and always believed in eating local fruits and vegetables, instead of imported foodstuffs. He was sad about the growing degradation of our peaceful lifestyle due to influences of Europe and America. He always prayed to God for others and many adults today thank him for having rescued them from idleness and helped them create their own job. At a very young age he thought me to always read something or write something every day, and felt it was necessary for us to learn English.

We are convinced he is in the Light now and we feel no sadness but serene joy at his liberation. Towards the end of his life he regretted that he had not seen India. My mother also passed away peacefully in 1990. J.S. Sahaï.

Papan mwen fèt an 1913, manman'y té ni 14 an! Sété on vré gwadloupéyen kréyol. I té ébénis kafè mèb péyi, apré sa i fè réprézantan a machin a bwa é fouw a pen. KURAL 994
The world commends the civility of those who
combine fruitful effort and kindly benevolence.

Nithyanandam ! - Rosine Maroudy.

My Dear Bhaiya,
Please do accept our most sincere condolences on the passing of a beloved Pita Ji. That you had him for 93 years is a great blessing. Please know that our prayers, wishes and love are with you during this time. Sincerely, - Nanda Sahadeo, Devar and the Entire IJP Parivaar, Guyana.

Om Sivaya, Jean: I am sorry to hear of your father's passing. He lived a good long life, and is happily on the antar loka now. - Sannyasin Arumugaswami, Managing Editor, Hinduism Today Magazine.

Wishing you the very best, - Robert Romney.

Sé on dot vi ka koumansé pou'y. Fos ! - Félix Héry.

Your dad is 'fine' now... that is the Truth... You need to do what is to be done... that is reality... I am sure you will manage... Take care? - Nithyananda Advaith (Ram).

An pawol saj, ki ka fan'an sonjé'y :
et qu'il a un corps ;
pas que l'homme est un corps,

PARAMSANT DR. CHATURBHUJ SAHAI JI

IMPARTING WISDOM & KNOWLEDGE : DR. CHATURBHUJ SAHAI JI

Ramashram Satsang was founded in 1923 by Paramsant Dr. Chaturbhuj Sahai Ji at Etah U.P. to propagate the teachings of Paramsant Sri Ram Chandra ji Maharaj of Fatehgarh who had evolved a novel but simple new method of imparting spiritual education (wisdom and knowledge).

At Etah, this work was continued by him with unbounded zeal upto 1950.

Thereafter considering the poor means of communication to Etah (which sometimes caused great inconvenience to the incoming visitors) he shifted his head-quarters and that of Ramashram Satsang to Mathura (U.P.).

PANDIT SHARDA SAHAI : TABLA VIRTUOSO FROM BENARES

Sahai

3 AOÛT
2006
: PANDIT SHARDA SAHAI A MONTREAL

Tabla d'harmonie
par Réjean Beaucage
http://www.voir.ca/musique/musique.aspx?iIDArticle=43005

Pandit Sharda Sahai:

Sharda Sahai was born in Benares in 1935, a direct descendent of Pandit Ram Sahai, the founder of the Benares style ("gharana") of tabla playing. With the inherent gift in his blood of the finest traits of the Benares baj, he began at an early age to learn tabla from his father, the late Pandit Bhagvati Sahai.
